Opuntia x wootonii
Opuntia x wootonii also called the Wooton's Black-spined Prickly-Pear is an upright prickly pear than can reach 30" tall and wide. Plants can turn dark purple when stressed with heat, cold or drought. The plants for sale are large well rooted pads off our parent plant. Opuntia x wootonii can take some cold, our plants have taken -11F. This is a natural occuring hybrid between Opuntia macrocentra and O. phaeacantha. It can tolerate sandy soils or rocky gravelly conditions.
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5/6/7 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
