Agave lechuguilla x Agave palmeri
Agave lechuguilla is probably in the top 5 for most cold hardy species of agave. Plants have taken -22F and -10s many times in my colorado garden.
Agave palmeri is pretty cold hardy taking -17F and some severe cold.
We crossed the two cold hardiest locations and got this new hybrid. So far the 4" potsized seedlings have survived their first winter with no damage. We have no idea how cold hardy they may be but what we can say is these are very very slow growing plants. Some plants are blue with a midstripe and some are not striped or blue. So the hybrid is variable.
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
