Agave utahensis forma utahensis Beaverdam Mts, UT
Agave utahensis forma utahensis has proven to be hardy in Colorado taking -22F on a few occasions. This particular form has been growing in our garden for 15+ years and bloomed several times. Blooming plants have reached only 18" across and 8" tall, occasionaly clumping. This is one of the more common forms but it is a good plant to start with. Plants need to dry out quickly and this is probably the most challenging Agave species to grow.
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Extreme drainage is required for this species. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
