Aloe brevifolia or Short-leaved Aloe is an easy to grow aloe that is very cold hardy. Plants have not been tested below -5F but at that temperature they died to the roots and reappeared in spring. one other thing to note is that plants took some tip damage when temperatures went from 80F to the first freeze of the season which was 12F, but they did not die. This is really hard on plants, but with mulching or a good microclimate I think these could live in a colder garden.
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5/6 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
