Cylindropuntia x viridiflora Santa Fe Cholla
Cylindropuntia x viridiflora is a rare endemic hybrid Cholla found in central New Mexico. The original plant is from Santa Fe, NM. We have recently discovered that Cylindropuntia x viridiflora is a hybrid between Cylindropuntia davisii and Cylindropuntia imbricata. Not what others have been preaching. Plants should be zone 5 for cold hardiness as the area historically got to -28F but in summer reaches temperatures of 100F. This plant has performed well for us but is best if pruned at the base to encourage a strong upright growth. Plants generally bloom from May-July. Plants for sale are Large stem cuttings. Original plant was given to us by our good friend Obie part of the Cactus Rescue project in Santa Fe. They work to protect this rare species.
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5/6/7 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
