Echinocereus bonkerae ssp. apachensis Crown King, AZ

Echinocereus bonkerae ssp. apachensis is a cold hardy species from central Arizona. Plants generally have long shaggy spines. Plants are commonly mistaken as Echinocereus fasciculatus. Seed came from near Crown King, AZ. These plants have taken -11F on more than one occasion and have done well in our garden. We suggest a protected place and they will reward you with a large clump. In more exposed places they stay solitary. These really like summer monsoon moisture. Filtered afternoon shade helps in hot gardens.
