Echinocereus reichenbachii x E. albispinus

Echinocereus reichenbachii x E. albispinus is a hybrid created by us using a Black-Lace E. reichenbachii and a snowball E. albispinus. The results have been a range of colorful plants of orange to black spines. This has proven to be one of the most cold hardy species of cactus. These plants pull themselves down and make a very small profile in winter time. 8" tall plants will be 3" tall in winter, which is just impressive. This form has taken -22F and several negative teen temperatures.

I do not guarantee these in a zone 5 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
