Echinocereus rhyolithensis
Echinocereus viridiflorus rhyolithensis comes from southern New Mexico (Red Rocks, NM). This plant looks like the northern version of Echinocereus russanthus but is more cold hardy. Plants were grown from mostly yellow/red spined plants. Plants have taken -22F for us with no problems in colorado. We are growing it in a well drained rock garden.
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
