Echinocereus viridiflorus chloranthus

Echinocereus viridiflorus chloranthus

Echinocereus viridiflorus forma chloranthus comes from southern New Mexico and west Texas. This plant starts out as typical Echinocereus viridiflorus seedlings and eventually grow long central spines. Plants were grown from mostly yellow/red spined plants. Seed came from north of Carlsbad, NM on the edge of the plains.

Plants have taken -22F for us with no problems in colorado. We are growing it in a well drained rock garden. Should be one of the more cold-hardy varieties of Green Pitaya.

I do not guarantee these in a zone 5 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
