Mammillaria meiacantha Santa Rosa, NM 5,500ft

Mammillaria meicantha is a cold hardy plant from southeastern Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. These plants were seed grown from west of Santa Rosa, NM. The area got to -20F historically and below zero more recently. They were growing in grassland habitat as well as hard clay.  These bloom white-cream in early spring and get a deep taproot like a turnip.
