Opuntia azurea
Opuntia azurea or Black-Spined Prickly Pear is a medium cactus reaching 3ft tall in the wild. In the cold environments of colorado it reaches about 2ft tall. Plants really get damage when lows get below -15F. Its not unusual to cut a few pads off with a cold winter. These plants really grow and can get 10 pads in a season easily. The plants for sale are well rooted large pads, some of the spines might be pruned back to allow easier shipping. They will grow back, this will aid with planting too.
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
