Penstemon barbatus 'Scarlet Bugler'

Penstemon barbatus or Scarlet Bugler is a major hummingbird species that blooms in early summer and with added moisture will bloom till September or until your first freeze in fall. Plants are generally around 40" tall but can reach up to 7ft tall on wet years. These large inflorescnes  can be real great perching places for young black-chin hummingbirds. Plants are seed grown. 
Zones 3-9
 
Plants have been growing outside and are ready to go into the garden. We have had several mornings in the mid-30s and highs around 95F. Fall is the best time to plant perennials because the plants are very cold hardy and are not being stressed by high temperatures. Plus plants are likely to bloom in spring.
