Thelocactus bicolor var. flavispinus
Thelocacctus bicolor ssp. flavispinus from the Marathon Basin in west Texas is one of the most cold hardy forms of Thelocactus bicolor. These flower in the summer monsoon months, it is commonly called the Glory of Texas because of its large flowers. We have had this species in our garden for many years and has handled -17F many times.
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5/6/7 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
