Thelocactus setispinus SB1811
Thelocactus setispinus formerly Hamatocactus setispinus is really a thelocactus. These small little barrel cactus get large yellow flowers during the monsoon summer months and then is followed by little red fruit. These plants have taken -17F in our garden and like being on the dry side in winter. We are growing the most cold hardy clone we could find from Kimble county, TX (SB1811).
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5/6/7 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
